Today as I was looking for a picture I came across a saying that quite frankly upset me. The saying is found on window clings, bumper stickers, T-shirts and yes even church signs. The saying is Jesus is coming look busy. I looked for just a bit to see the origin of this statement but did not find it. However when I read this phrase it leads me to think that you can pull one over on Jesus and if you look “busy” when He returns you will have fooled him and he will let you into Heaven. Good luck with that. If you think you can fool Jesus Hell is for you. The second I do not believe Jesus wants us to be “busy” I think he would prefer us to be worshipful to Him only and if we are to be anything else on this earth it would be to be effective in proclaiming the Gospel message. I still can not belive that a church would put this on their sign. Instead of this saying why not read what Colossians 3:1-4 has to say instead.
1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your[a] life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
Good observation, Mike. Here are a couple scriptures that came to mind:
ReplyDeleteEphesians 6:6 …not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,
Colossians 3:22-24
22 Slaves (you could say, “Workers”), obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
