But I want it nowwwww!

Luke 22:42

“Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

We are in some ways  a lot like Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. We want it and we want it now. We all want things, but are the things that we want right? Of course we think so at the time, as did Veruca. But look where it got her. Who could blame Jesus for praying not to have to go through what he was about to endure? After all he was Jesus he was perfect, he never sinned all he did was good and he was about to be punished for it. That’s not right, that’s not fair. However the thing to note here is that Jesus was perfect and Jesus did not sin so that is why he said what I want is not important but what God wants is. Are we able to do the same? Are you able to put your wants aside for the glory of God? Endure suffering and hardship for Him? If you’re honest the answer is probably no. But it is something that you can work on every day and work towards. If each day you can learn to love Him more, if you can know Him better, and trust Him more you will be better equipped to lay your will aside and embrace God’s. Then in the end be more like Charlie than Veruca and inherit the Kingdom of God.
