Mankinds lightning rod

Jude 1:5
5 So I want to remind you, though you already know these things, that Jesus first rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, but later he destroyed those who did not remain faithful.

When I read this verse the first thing popped into my head was the difference between common grace and saving grace. Of course saving grace is the grace that God shows by choosing to save any of us from Hell. None of us deserve Heaven but only by his saving grace are we kept from Hell.

Common grace is something that I had never really considered until I studied it. I used to think that the good things that happened in life were all based on the efforts of humans or just plain luck, little did I know that when something good happened no matter who did it a believer or an unbeliever that it was only by common grace.  Take for example if an atheist doctor saved a dying person, was it his knowledge that healed the person? Yes and no, yes it was his knowledge that did it but it was only by God’s common grace that he was allowed to have that knowledge. Common grace is mankinds lighting rod and is what keeps anyone from being stuck by lighting at their very first sin. We think that we live in an evil world but little do we know that common grace is what restrains people from being as evil as they could be.
Common grace is also responsible for the talents that people have, the music we listen to, the food that is prepared for us, the athletes we watch, the art we look at, the books we read, the movies we enjoy, the list goes on and on. No matter who has these talents believer or unbeliever their works are all just the results of God's common grace. You should be able to come up with a minimum of 10 things that you can see from right where you are that you should thank God for right now as a result of his common grace.
