There is of course a lot of talk this week about Easter. Something that came to mind for me was.
1. Jesus said that he would die. Check, he certainly did.
2. Jesus said that he would rise from the dead. Check, he most certainly did, and for some reason that is why we are talking about bunnies and eggs this week.
But the thing we need to remember was something else Jesus said. He said he would return. I don't know about you but after everything else I don't have any reason to think that he won't. Now the question becomes do you have to get ready for his return? Or do you stay ready? After all make no doubt He is coming.
This reminds me of what my wife has always said to the kids and me. She has always said "make sure the house is picked up, just in case someone stops by." So is your "house" picked up in case Jesus comes back today?
We can look at this two ways. When Jesus returns everyone will be judged. Everyone will be separated into two groups the ones who will spend eternity with him, and the ones who will spend eternity in Hell. Are you ready for that?
Then there is the other way and that is addressed in 1 John 2:28
28 And now, dear children, remain in fellowship with Christ so that when he returns, you will be full of courage and not shrink back from him in shame.
As a Christian are you remaining in fellowship with Jesus so not to stray from his commands and teachings? Is your relationship with him strong enough now that when he returns you can face him with confidence? Or are you doing things now that if he came back today that you would stay in the background hoping that He didn't see you because you are ashamed of what you are doing or not doing?
He is coming back. If it is today, are you ready? Or do you have to get ready? If He returns and you still have to get ready. It's to late.
